English Language Arts
December 2-6
This week's focus: This week we are making inferences from small pieces of texts.
Reading
We have begun Unit 2! In this unit, the students will learn about the American Revolution. Students should have received their new novels and bookmarks. All novels are historical fiction and share a common topic of the American Revolution.
New vocabulary will be given out this week. These words will come from the novels.
**Some tests will be eligible for a re-test. If your child makes a D or F on a major test, they are eligible for a re-test. Those tests include book/novel tests and unit tests. If your child is eligible for a re-test, I will send something home for the students to complete in the test folder. They will also sit with me in a small group for re-teaching, then re-take the test. The two grades will then be averaged together for a new grade. More information will be coming home in the test folder on 9/12/19.

**There is no way to study for a mountains quiz. Mountains is weekly grammar practice. I will sit down with students in small groups to review skills that were missed on their last quiz. If they feel like they need help not finished, or not completely understanding a skill, they can always come see me during PE.
Homework:
Writing
We are continuing to work on essays and that topic will probably take us to Christmas break. I am working on getting their first graded essays sent home. After Thanksgiving, we will do an opinion essay. The students will decide if they would have rather been a Loyalist or a Patriot. They will give reasons and support their claim with evidence from the text.
